Key concepts explained

CortexDevice

The umbrella term used to refer to all camera models.

CortexFramework

CortexFramework is the AVUTEC camera OS. It is a modular software system developed to run on the edge. It takes care off all image processing, inter system connectivity/communication and remote management.

CortexFramework has a modular set up. It consists of Axons, modules with a certain functionality to built a complete smart application called a Cortex.

Building a Cortex with Axons

Axons are the building blocks of CortexFramework. With axons a cortex can be built.

A Cortex can be described as a collection of Axons put in a certain order. Axons receive, create and forward messages, depending on the Axon.

Messages contain pieces of information, MessageInfos. An ANPRAxon will recieve a message containing an image. The main task of the ANPRAxon is to recognize a license plate.

After recognition the ANPRAxon will add a messageinfo to the message containing the recognized license plate.

Cortex: Pipeline of Axons and messages
Together a set of Axons create a pipeline handling incoming video streams, processing them and outputting results to third party systems.

The Axons can be subdivided in three categories: source/input, processing and output Axons.

CortexClient: GUI of CortexFramework
CortexClient is the graphical interface for CortexFramework. It allows for visually building and configuring Cortexes.
CortexClient is the client software with which you can connect to and manage all CortexFramework devices, local and remote.

CortexConnect
To simplify accessing CortexFramework devices AVUTEC developed CortexConnect.

CortexConnect is a remote access tool to connect to devices running CortexFramework without the need for port forwarding, opening firewalls or setting up a VPN connection. CortexConnect facilitates high quality support from behind a desk.

Hypervisor
Hypervisor is the process responsible for monitoring, starting and stopping Cortexes.
The hypervisor can hold multiple Cortex designs, only one Cortex can run at the time.

Hypervisor is used as an alias for CortexDevices.

Messages
Messages flow through the Cortex from one Axon to the other. Axons add information to a message, called a MessageInfo, or create their own messages.

MessageInfo
Piece of information that is added to a message.

Rule engine or scripting
The implementation of the AVUTEC rule engine in CortexFramework enables to set up rules (triggers) to trigger predefined actions. The engine uses custom scripts to define triggers (Messages in the Cortex) and actions to implement project tailored functionality.

CortexNavigator
The navigator or solution explorer of CortexClient makes for easy navigation between several CortexDevices and their Cortexes.

CortexDesigner
The designer is the graphical environment to design a cortex by dragging and dropping axons.

Viewpanel
A viewpanel of an axon displays an image stream at that moment in the cortex. The image stream after an ImgCropAxon looks different then before.

Settingspanel
A settingspanel of an axon to monitor and adjust settings.

CortexView
CortexView offers an overview of view- and settingspanels of a cortex. The panels can be personally selected and placed on the CortexView canvas.
